Can I use a HDMI cable from my DVD player to my TV along with a optical audio cable from the same DVD player to my A/V receiver, ( the receiver does not have hdmi inputs ) THANKS

You may be able to use an HDMI splitter or adapter, I don't really understand what you need to do exactly. Here are some good resources that explain HDMI connections in more detail.
